Who Is Carson?

My last post was a little in-depth look at Coleman. Here is a little introduction to Mister Carson for you.

Who Is Carson?

Carson weighed in at 12 pounds, 4 ounces today (finally putting him on the curve with full-term babies at the second percentile). He started at 5 pounds, 1 ounce. He’s now 22.8 inches (started at 19).

Appearance: Carson is long and lean. He is a constant flexed muscle. He also has huge eyes. And he wrinkles his forehead a lot—it’s cute. He has blonder hair than his brother, but it has a slight tint of red as well. He is very slender. His cheeks are full—his dad likes to point out how he uses them as pillows sometime.

Temperament: Carson has quite the personality. He goes from being very happy to very mad in just a moment. He talks and babbles with anybody that will look at him. He has become very social in the past few weeks. He smiles huge. Then he gets mad. Very mad.

Our pediatrician says she has never heard a child scream like him. He went from having a great time talking with the nurse today to screaming so hard he broke capillaries in his forehead! (Ok, so the child did get shots, but seriously, it will surprise you if you happen to witness such a change in temperament all at once!)

Behaviors: Like I mentioned, Carson is very social. He smiles and talks constantly. He holds his hands together and brings them to his mouth. He  loves his blanket. He loves to be tightly swaddled to sleep at night. He loves to watch the mobile. He doesn’t transition well.  He cries between feeding to sleeping to playing to the car seat. He sleeps great! He goes to bed in his crib and often makes it all night without needing help to go back to sleep. He wants to eat from a bottle—I think because it is quicker and when this child wants something, he wants it immediately! He spits up a ton. I think because he gets mad, gulps it down, then lets too much of it come back up.

Development: Carson is always bringing his hands together and making several different noises. He loves to look at people and in the mirror. He is very strong—he holds his head up well and brings his head and feet up during tummy time. Today after the shots, the nurse was surprised when he pulled himself up into the sitting position—it brought us all a good laugh—before the high pitch scream and busting capillaries set in!
