The Wonder of the Incarnation

Man was made in the image of God (Genesis 1:27). . . . [I]n becoming man [at the first Christmas], God is not identifying with something that is a contradiction of himself. Human nature has the capacity for sharing the divine (2 Peter 1:4) and this implies that there is in the incarnation an element of appropriateness which would not exist in the case of a union between God and any other creature.
